do password recovery softwares work? are they also some kind of phishing scam?

i need to get my gmail account back. I have forgotten the password and the answer. my secondary id is inaccurate. can anything be done now?

1. Depending on what you want the password from yes they do. I would not trust any password crackers or recovery tools that attemp to crack ONLINE password for such as gmail or hotmail etc. And when you do find one and download I can bet 90% that it is a virus/tojan/spyware/malware so make sure you scan it with uptodate softwear
2. Send a message to gmail, explain the situation to them and see if they can assist....good luck!
